Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the city.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the group reach places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Planners groups.
Viewers can expect learning which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
