Catherine's Yearly Yuletide Musical Celebration Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including award-winning actors.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The focus of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the organisation, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
